Varietal Notes:
Muscat of Alexandria is an ancient variety of possible North African origin. Most plantings of this white varietal are in California, where it is generally used to produce raisins and table grapes. In California this grape is mainly raised in the hot Central Valley, where increasingly, it has been added to sweet quaffing wines of little distinction. Some of this wine is also added to other inexpensive wines, to boost and prettify aromas. Generally held in higher esteem in areas outside of California. A grape used in the production of sherry.
Characteristics*:
The dry white wines produced from the variety are characterized by their wonderfully fruity aroma against a background of floral notes. The natural sweet wines are bright in color with golden tones, an intense floral aroma with fruity notes, hints of citrus and a full, ripe, rich taste with a velvety smooth aftertaste.
Aromas/Flavors*:
floral, citrus
Food Pairing:
Desserts or as an aperitif
Aging**:
aging potential varies based upon vinification method

Examples***:
* Character, Aromas, and Flavors of wine produced from the above-mentioned grapes are based upon a general assessment of the variety. Winemaker results will vary.
** The ability to age is tied directly to the wine's chemical make-up. Aging in the context of a varietal assumes the wines produced can or tend to yield the correct chemical make-up. Winemaker results will vary.
*** Commercial Examples provided as varietal references for benchmarking. Winemaker results will vary.
